General Information

The SARI line, a regional brine line, is designed to convey 30 million gallons per day (MGD) of non-reclaimable wastewater from the upper Santa Ana River basin to the ocean for disposal, after treatment.  The non-reclaimable wastewater consists of Desalter concentrate and industrial wastewater. Domestic wastewater is also received on a temporary basis. To date over 73 miles of the SARI line have been completed.  The most recent extension (23 miles in length), the Temescal Valley Regional Interceptor (TVRI) line (now referred to as Reach V) was completed in 2001. The upstream extension  (Reach IV D and IV E) was completed in 1995 to the City of San Bernardino Wastewater Treatment Plant.  Reach IV A serves the Chino Basin area and Reach IV B serves the southwestern portion of the City of Riverside.

SARI Protection/Relocation at Prado Dam

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) is constructing improvements to raise the height of Prado Dam and to make other changes to the facilities (such as the location of the channels and outfall for the water), which will effectively allow more capture of water behind the dam.  Portions of the SARI line are located immediately upstream of the dam, and the line passes under the dam. In addition, this portion of the SARI line is one of the oldest portions of the pipeline.

SAWPA, through the USACE is relocating this portion of the SARI.  The relocated pipeline will be placed in the dam outlet channel.

The USACE has an extensive data set on the Prado Dam area; an example of this is a summary of water level and associated data at the dam.

SARI Rates

SAWPA SARI rates are established by Resolution.  The current Resolution is Resolution No. 482.  These rates represent the "wholesale" rate to the SAWPA member agencies.  Member agencies establish "retail" rates which may be slightly higher.
