Overview

On April 2, 2002 the Southern California Salinity Coalition was officially incorporated as a non-profit organization formed to provide a means of coordinating the efforts of stakeholders to address the critical need to remove salt from water supplies and preserve water resources, in the best interests of California and its citizens. The corporation is composed of 12 member agencies including the Santa Ana Watershed Project Authority, Calleguas Municipal Water District, Central and West Basins Municipal Water Districts, City of Los Angeles Department of Water and Power, Inland Empire Utilities Agency, Irvine Ranch Water District, Los Angeles County Sanitation District, Metropolitan Water District of Southern California, Mojave Water Agency, Orange County Sanitation District, Orange County Water District, and the Water Replenishment District of Southern California. The National Water Research Institute serves as the administrator of the organization. The Coalition works to address salt issues by:

• Providing inspiration and leadership to solving issues relating to salinity management, including the need for funding of salinity research and management.

• Educating its members and others regarding the effects of proposed and existing regulations and/or legislation relating to salinity.

• Providing a forum for the exchange of ideas regarding salinity management.

• Providing advice and comments, without violating paragraph (D) of Article IV of the Corporation’s Articles of Incorporation, at the Federal, State and local levels with respect to legislation, regulations, rulings, and other actions, or proposals therefore, affecting salinity management.

• Providing advice and comments in proceedings before courts and administrative bodies through briefs and memoranda as a friend of the court or agency regarding salinity management.
