Projects: Other

SAWPA staff are involved in a wide variety of projects that are not specifically under the categories of Engineering & Operations or Planning.  Some of these projects are being performed by SAWPA management, others are initiatives by the Information Systems and Data Management department to make staff more efficient or to provide data more effectively.  A current list (with brief descriptions) of these projects are listed below, with additional information for specific projects provided on links included on the list:

Santa Ana Watershed Data Management System (SAW DMS)

The purpose of this project is to develop a more comprehensive, watershed-wide data management structure which would enable potential users to access a single portal for all ground water and surface water data.  This would serve as a data connection point for agencies that manage and administer data for their own area, but also incorporate other data not managed as part of a larger system. Ultimately, this system would include both surface water data and groundwater data, would be used as a data repository, and would be a source to enable evaluation of the health of the watershed, either at the local or regional level.

As of October, 2005, the technical work on Phase I is nearly complete, and Phase II (which was funded by SWRCB) is gearing up.  The external (stakeholder) system is located at www.sawpa.net/sawdms_portal.

Technical Advisory Committee Members

One task of the project is the formation of a "Technical Advisory Committee" (TAC), a group of watershed stakeholders that will assist SAWPA in the development of this project. SAWPA is requesting approximately 10 stakeholders to join the committee to help us assess and resolve a number of issues on data content, access, security, and use.  The  composition of the committee is proposed as follows:

  • Representative(s) from SAWPA member agencies

  • Representative(s) from SAWPA

  • Representative(s) from regulatory community (RWQCB)

  • Representative(s) from other stakeholders with technical expertise and/or with end user needs.

The linked PDF file presents a Draft of the expectations of the TAC members for Phase I of the project. The TAC is continuing in Phase II,. with a slightly different composition of members.  If you are interested in becoming a TAC member, please contact Greg Duecker by email or phone at (909) 354-4224.

A PDF of the Phase II project start-up presentation given to the TAC is located at this link.
