June 30th is the deadline for SAWPA’s “call for projects” implementing the OWOW Plan. Project proponents should electronically submit their project applications for both conceptual and shovel-ready projects at www.sawpa.org.
A subset of highly-ranked OWOW projects will be considered for Proposition 84, Chapter 2 expedited funding. SAWPA is administering $114,000,000 IRWM funding and this first round of expedited funding is expected to be $11,000,000.
The OWOW planning process has focused on developing:
· a shared watershed vision;
· a “systems approach” to accomplishing our goals;
· projects where multiple agencies work collaboratively to provide multiple benefits to the region; and
· public benefits that are provided economically and efficiently, while protecting environmental benefits.
Our “call for projects” asks that we all also prepare for a changing climate, begin to close the gap between land use and water resources planning, and address disadvantaged communities and Native American Tribes.
Over 80 project applications have been received to date. Don’t delay, please submit your project information today!
