Canyon Lake

Canyon Lake Monitoring Plan

The objective of the monitoring program is to continue to collect Phase 1 data in Canyon
Lake in compliance with the requirements of the approved Lake Elsinore and Canyon
Lake Nutrient TMDL Monitoring Plan (February 15, 2006) during the period from July
2007 to June 2008. Results will be used to quantify Canyon Lake water quality conditions.

Canyon Lake Bacteria Monitoring Plan

Bacterial levels in Canyon Lake have exceeded applicable water quality objectives specified in the Santa Ana Regional Water Quality Control Plan (aka "Basin Plan").1 Consequently, the lake has been periodically closed to recreational uses to protect public health. And, in 1998, Canyon Lake was added to California's 303(d) list of impaired waterbodies due to excessive fecal coliform concentrations.

Canyon Lake Bacteria Memo

Under this program grab samples of lake water were collected during two periods of the year
(winter and summer) on a weekly basis at six locations to determine if Canyon Lake is in
continuous compliance with the EPA promulgated water quality objective for E. coli.
